Big News in the family!!! Brady was officially drafted to the New York Yankees! He is the first player to ever be drafted out of Utah from the Yankees and we couldn't be prouder. We weren't really Yankee fans, in fact, I usually give uncle Justin a hard time for his unwavering dedication to the Yanks, but with the recent developments, we had to jump on board. Family trumps ego every time.
Brady is starting his young career in Tampa, Florida with the rookie team. Good Luck Brady!
Fourth of July weekend was jammed packed and quickly became known as "Grundy-thon 2012". Whenever the Finnerty's and Vegas Grundy's come into town, we try to fill up their short visit with as many fun family things as possible. This year, it was BBQ's, Lagoon, Family pictures, Cowabunga Bay, fireworks and more BBQ's.
My kids have not been to Lagoon for awhile, so they really had fun! Abby was convinced to be more brave this year and try some bigger rides, which included a $10 pay out from Grandma for going on Wicked. The bribery worked, because she ended up going and having a great time.
Fireworks at Grandma and Grandpa's never disappoint. We thought we might not be able to do them this year with all of the fires in the area, but it ended up being ok. Finnerty led the event, while letting all of the kids help lite the fireworks (scary!) The kids thought they were so grown up! Then, we ended the night with a couple of huge ones that really lit up the sky.
Abby is officially playing Accelerated Softball this year. She is on the Bullets, and yes, I am still coaching her. We have been really busy, as they play pretty much all year. She has really loved playing, and she has improved so much with just one year under her belt. She loves doing cheers with the girls in the dugout, and I think she loves me coaching her (I hope she does). We had one tournament in Brigham City, so we got a hotel room, and she decorated the car. She thought that was pretty cool!
On the way home from Brigham City, we stopped at the Hill Air Force Base Airplane Museum. I guess I never realized that they had never been, but they had so much fun! They ran all around the place, from one plane to the next. It totally made their day!
We spent the 24th of July just being home. Brandi, Kory and the kids came over and we ate and lit more fireworks. Then, the next night we put up the tent and had a sleep out in the backyard, which is a little weird with no fence, but the kids love it. They really love the (micowaved smores) which end up being just a gooey mess.
In June, Chad and I ran the Ragnar Wasatch Back for the third time. For some reason, we just love this stupid race. We have so much fun and I think the best part is just being together. It was fun this year, because I got to hand off to him at the end of each leg, so it was fun to see him there waiting for me. Our team was "Shut the Van Door!", which made for lots of fun jokes along the way. We jumped in the lake, chased girls in white shorts, and there may or may not have been some nudity in our van. As always, we had a great time and loved spending it with friends.
One problem with Boden, is that he is just all over the place. He is at such a crazy age where he just wants to go and go. He did great on the boat, even though his life jacket fit him a little weird because he is so heavy that he had to wear one that is probably for a 3-4 yr old. He also just wants things when he wants them, and one of those things was watermelon. It didn't matter to him that it had fallen on the ground and was covered in sand. He just kept eating it and at that point, there is nothing we could do to stop him.
The kids really got a taste of the outdoors this year. The boys went with Chad and Grandpa on a boys only overnight fishing trip. The boys had been talking about this for months, and they were so excited to go! Grandpa even bought a special tent to go on top of his truck for them to sleep in. Dad bought tons of junk food and they had fun catching fish and just hanging out together. Chad said they did a great job and he considers them "natural fishermen". They even had fun eating the fish after they brought it home, and I think they were pretty proud of themselves.
Now it is back to the grind..... School has officially started. Carson is now in second grade and he LOVES his teacher, Mrs. Johnsen. Abby is in fourth grade and she just loves school in general. They are both growing up so fast! Abby was totally embarrassed at the thought of me coming to the school on the first day, but Carson was excited for the support, although, when I went in for a kiss in front of his friends, I ended up just getting some "rocks" (which is equivalent to a hand shake) SAD!! Good thing I still have two more at home that I can kiss as much as I want, for now.
